Vortex Russian Imperial Stout with cacao and dark cherries Along the Wild and Scenic Forks of the Kern lurks a Class V rapid known as “Vortex.” Perhaps the most challenging drop on this wilderness run, its location is given away by an overhanging rock-face high up on the gorge walls that looks like an upside-down V. The sight of this gives even the most experienced of boaters a sense of unease; V for Vortex. The rapid itself is a maelstrom of currents and hydraulics. The risk in running this rapid is high and the path to carry your boat around is well traveled. This Russian Imperial Stout is a maelstrom of roasted malts, Belgian Candi, Cacao and Dark Cherries. Certainly, it is a big beer, but stay the course, and you will be rewarded for it.
